Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees In early June elections for a new Board of Trustees will take place. The Board has engaged Canterbury Education Services (CES) to be the returning officer for our trustee elections. Parents and others may wish to consider standing for election to our school Board. All New Zealand’s state and state integrated schools have a Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is the Crown entity responsible for the governance of the school – the Board is the employer, it is responsible for setting the school’s strategic direction, and ensuring that its school provides a safe environment and quality education for all its students. Boards are also responsible for overseeing the management of personnel, curriculum, property, finance and administration. Parent trustees are elected by the parent community and staff members elect a staff representative. The Principal is also a member of the Board. Board trustees need a balance of skills and experiences. If you work well in a team, have good communication skills, like to ask challenging questions, have an interest in education as a whole, and are able to help put plans into place for the School’s future, then you are well suited to becoming a trustee. If considering standing, it is important to remember that parent representatives are on the Board to represent the interests of the whole community and all our children, rather than those specific to a representative’s child or children. The Dunsandel School Board of Trustees includes up to five parent elected trustees, one staff elected trustee, the principal and any additional co-opted members.

The common election date is Friday 3 June 2016.

The timeline for the election is:-

Wednesday 4 May – Main roll closes at noon

Friday 6 May – Nomination forms distributed via mail

Wednesday 18 May – Supplementary roll close

Friday 20 May – Nominations close at noon

Wednesday 25 May – Voting papers sent out via mail

Friday 3 June – Voting closes at noon

Thursday 9 June – Votes counted and announced

Friday 10 June – New Board of Trustees takes office.

I’m sure any of our current Board members would be happy to discuss with anyone interested their time and role on the Board of Trustees
